Ricky Tomlinson is set to star in a new zombie drama for the BBC.

Best known for playing Jim in The Royle Family, Tomlinson started filming this week for the three-part BBC3 series In The Flesh.

It tells the tale of the village of Roarton where thousands of people are brought back to life after a freak occurrence. The zombies then spend months in rehabilitation before they are reintegrated back into their normal lives. Youngster Luke Newberry is set to star as Kieren who is a teenage zombie trying to live a normal life again.

Tomlinson will play one of the villagers.

Director Jonny Campbell said "From the moment I read the opening scene I was hooked. What's most exciting about In The Flesh is that it challenges our preconceptions about the standard zombie genre and in so doing almost certainly creates a new one."
