Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent has confirmed that her on-screen counterpart Sophie Webster will be embarking on a new relationship.
The actress revealed that her character, who came out as a lesbian two years ago, will begin a new romance early next year.
However, Vincent did not divulge whether Sophie's new girlfriend will be a character already on the soap or a new introduction to the cobbles.
She told The Daily Star: "I can't reveal whether her relationship will be with a new character or an existing member of the street, but it will be with another girl."
Sophie was previously engaged to former best friend Sian Powers (Sacha Parkinson), but showed doubts while reading her vows on their wedding day, leading to Sian's departure from Weatherfield.
Vincent also spoke about their plot, adding: "There aren't actually many lesbians on telly, and Sophie and Sian were so young.
"But we made sure we didn't change our appearances or start acting any differently to meet the stereotype."
