Fan favourite characters are set to reprise their roles in teen drama Skins for its final season next year.

Kaya Scodelario, Hannah Murray and Jack O’Connell are the first of the cast who have been confirmed to return to their former roles. Producers tease the final series as being 'more adult' and 'more uncompromising' as the teens have now become young adults 'and the party's over'.

Three storylines will end the series, each divided into two one-hour episodes. Each storyline will be titled, the first being ‘Skins Pure’, followed by ‘Skins Rise’ and ending with ‘Skins Fire’. Other characters from across the six seasons of the show are expected to re-appear to round off storylines.

Fan favourites Hannah Murray and Kaya Scodelario will return

The first of the double episodes will follow original cast member Hannah Murray reprise the role of Cassie Ainsworth. We last saw Sid travel to New York to try to track down Cassie at the end of season two. Here, we find Cassie lonely and invisible in London, where she strikes up an unlikely friendship with a stranger.

The middle episodes will follow Cook (Jack O’Connell) as the hot-headed young man now lives life as a drug dealer on the cold streets of Manchester, while being forced to confront his violent past and previous mistakes.

Lily Loveless, Kathryn Prescott and Jack O'Connell from Skins' 'second generation' are set to return

The final storyline, ‘Skins Fire’, will follow Effy Stonem (Scodelario) while she works a dead-end receptionist job in a financial firm and lives with Naomi (Lily Loveless).

Effy will embark on a passionate affair with her boss as well as facing a life-altering tragedy. Kat Prescott is set to feature as Emily throughout. Effy took centre stage as the lead character from her brother Tony (Nicholas Hoult) in season three.

It is not yet confirmed if other characters from the original season, including Nicholas Hoult, Dev Patel and Mitch Hewer, will reprise their respective roles of Tony, Anwar and Maxxie.

Bryan Elsley, co-creator said: "I am delighted that three emblematic actors, currently embarking on successful movie careers are returning to E4 and Skins. They will play their iconic characters as they emerge into adulthood, and bring new challenging stories of young adults, grappling with life in Cameron's Britain, to vivid and entertaining focus".

Production is expected to begin at the end of this month. Transmission will begin next spring.
