Showband singer Larry Cunningham has passed away.
The 74-year-old, from Granard, Co Longford was one of Ireland’s best known performers during the showband era. His achieved his first number one single in the mid-1960s with the song Lovely Leitrim.
He was the first Irish-based artist to make it into the British music charts in 1964 with his Tribute to Jim Reeves.
The death of the popular singer occurred last night at St Vincent’s hospital in Dublin following an illness.
