Nicholas Cage has been cast in the upcoming true crime thriller Amicus.

The actor will play real-life lawyer and scholar Rodney Smolla who was called upon to defend a publishing company after a class-action lawsuit was brought against it by the families of several murder victims.

A book published by the company, Hit Man: A Technical Manual for Independent Contractors, was used by contract killer James Perry as he prepared for the multiple homicide, while he was hired to do by Motown Records executive Lawrence Horn.

The victims were Horn's wife, his quadriplegic son and the family's overnight nurse, whose deaths were orchestrated by Horn in a bid to secure his son's $2 million trust.

The film will be written and directed by Donnie Darko helmer Richard Kelly.

Cage has also been cast in upcoming William Friedkin thriller I Am Wrath.
