Sony Pictures Animation has picked up the movie rights to the short-lived 1980s' TV series Manimal which was about a man who could change into an animal.
The series was created by Glen A Larson and was on air in 1983 in the US where it was pitted against Dallas in the schedules. It starred the late British actor Simon MacCorkindale as Dr Jonathan Chase, who could change into any animal he chose in order to help the police solve crimes.
The show did not last past its first eight episodes as it was written off by TV critics for its cheesy lines. But it did in that time develop a cult following.
The Hollywood Reporter says if Sony Pictures Animation go ahead with the project it would be a live action/CG hybrid film.
