Muse have penned a song for the Olympic Games, so it is no surprise they have now confirmed they will play at the closing ceremony.
The band will play the closing ceremony which is set to take place in the Olympic Stadium in Stratford, East London, on August 12th.
Muse member Don Howard spoke to NME about the song they recorded. "They sowed a seed by asking us to do some music but then five months went by. We showed them a few songs when they asked us about [the] closing ceremony and they loved it. It represented the enormous competition of what the Olympics is".
George Michael confirmed earlier this summer that he will make his stage comeback at the closing ceremony. Writing to his fans he said he was practising for his two-song set. Ed Sheeran also confirmed to Australian radio station Nova that he will perform.
Viewers watched the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Games two weeks ago where Sir Paul McCartney, Emeli Sandé, Dizzee Rascal, Two Door Cinema Club and the Arctic Monkeys performed.
Other names that have been linked to Olympic performances include Take That, the Spice Girls, Leona Lewis and Adele. The Who and Pink Floyd were also slated to play, the latter of which released a statement saying they will not perform.
