Paul Wesley has dropped hints about the fourth season of The Vampire Diaries.
The actor admitted that he prefers to play the part of vampire Stefan when the character is allowed to portray his dark side, and hopes that this will into his response to Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) progression into a vampire.
Speaking to Hitflix he said: "I think right now [he's feeling] a lot of guilt and rage over the fact that he was the one who caused [Elena's death].
"I'd like to see Stefan go to the dark side... I personally prefer Ripper Stefan, so I'm hoping that the guilt drives him to a place of darkness."
He further explained that Elena may become closer to Damon (Ian Somerhalder) saying: "Elena's remembering some things from when Damon compelled her, so I think it's sort of building back to romance with the two of them. Stefan is being her rock.
"But you know, at a certain point Elena may blame him, he may turn to some darkness. I've heard some rumours about Stefan having a new love interest, but I don't know if that's true or not."
The fourth season of The Vampire Diaries debuts on The CW on October 11.
