The producer of Independence Day, Dean Devlin announced that the original script for a sequel to the film was scrapped.
Devlin told ComingSoon.net: "We felt enormous pressure. Over the years everyone has always asked us about it. We never wanted to do it unless it felt germane to the story."
He went on to tell of the original script that was written ten years ago, "Ten years ago I was hired to write a sequel to Independence Day and they paid me a lot of money. After I finished the script, I gave the money back and I said, 'Don't even read the script. The script is okay, but we can't make an okay sequel to Independence Day'."
With talks of an Independence Day 2 in the near future he is confident this script is much better than his last attempt, that it makes sense and "won't disappoint fans" though it is still unclear whether or not the film will actually be made.
Independence Day was released in 1996 and made over $817million in the box office.
