The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn star MyAnna Buring has joined the cast of Downton Abbey for this year's Christmas special, playing one of the servants.

Her character, Edna, has been described as "feisty" and joins another newcomer to Downton, lady's maid Wilkins, who will be played by former Bad Girls and Wire in the Blood actress Simone Lahbib.

In an interview with the Sunday Times, Buring, who plays Tanya in Breaking Dawn, said of her casting as Edna: "You couldn't get two projects more different.

"Many of my previous roles have had a contemporary feel to them so I was thrilled when the offer came from Downton."

The actress has spent recent months in Dublin, filming the new BBC thriller series Ripper Street, which will be screened in the autumn.

Watch out for video interviews with Buring and the other stars of Ripper Street on in the coming months.
