Robin Williams joins The Butler

Robin Williams has signed on to play US President Dwight D. Eisenhower in The Butler.

The film which is being directed by Lee Daniels tells the true story of White House butler Eugene Allen who served eight American Presidents over the course of three decades.

The film is set to begin shooting later this month in New Orleans, according to the Hollywood Reporter. It will feature an ensemble cast which includes Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Vanessa Redgrave, Terrence Howard and Alan Rickman.

The script was written by Danny Strong and was based on an article in the Washington Post about Allen.

Williams will next be seen in Phil Alden Robinson’s The Angriest Man in Brooklyn which he stars in with Mila Kunis and Peter Drinklage.
