Welch cancels Benicassim appearance

Florence Welch has had to cancel her band's performance at this weekend’s Benicassim festival in Spain due to a vocal cord injury.

The singer has been told not to perform as to do so may cause permanent damage. Florence tweeted an apology to her fans saying “I’m so sorry to all the fans, I was desperate to still perform, but was told without question not to, so as not to do permanent damage.”

She later tweeted “Actually feeling a bit teary looking at all your messages... thank you... I'm gonna get mended real quick and come sing all your houses down.”

Florence and the Machine have also cancelled their performance at the Optimus Alive festival in Portugal this week but are due to continue their tour as soon as the singer gets better.

As for Benicassim, the organisers have said that due to the short notice of the cancellation they are not going to be able to find someone to fill her place so it is expected that At The Drive In will move up the bill to fill her headline slot.
