Adele’s album 21 has been named the UK's biggest selling album of 2012 so far.

The LP, which was released in January 2011, has sold over 596,000 copies so far this year according to the British music industry’s trade body, The BPI.

The recent figures mean that 21 has sold 4.63 million copies to date in the UK alone. In May it became the UK’s biggest-selling album of all time, beating Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

The singer, who announced her pregnancy last week, has sold over 9 million copies of 21 in the US and only recently left the UK top ten for the first time since its release.

Emeli Sande comes in at second place with her album Our Version Of Events having sold 532,000 copies. Lana Del Rey lands at number three with Born To Die which has sold 482,000 units.

Ed Sheeran’s + has sold 448,000 in 2012 which secures him fourth place, bringing his overall album sales to 1.2 million. Coldplay are in fifth place with Mylo Xyloto which has sold 312,000 copies.
