Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden has admitted that his character David Metcalfe is “daft” to walk down the aisle.
David is planning to wed close friend Alicia Gallagher in the coming weeks to ensure that he receives custody of her adopted son Jacob when she is sent to prison.
Speaking to the TV Times, Wolfenden explained that he would never dream of pulling such a stint in real life.
He said: "I'm totally different to David and take the marriage vows really seriously. He's so flippant about it and thinks they can get a quickie divorce, but I couldn't do that. It's daft."
Alicia, played by Natalie Anderson, is set to take a screen break in the near future as she is expecting her first child with husband James Shepherd.
Wolfenden further explained that he will miss having her around on set saying: "I'm really going to miss Natalie. She's great to work with, we have a real ball on set - and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens between David and Alicia."
He added: "From the build-up, I would love for her to come back and for him to say, 'Let's get divorced' and then, as he's signing the papers, realising that he's in love with her. That would be a great end to this story."
