Veteran hip hop act The Wu-Tang Clan will appear as themselves in the upcoming Ol' Dirty Bastard biopic Dirty White Boy.
Michael K Williams, who portrays the late Wu-Tang star in the movie, told the New York Daily News that the producers "have no desire to cast any actors as the Wu-Tang".
Williams, best known for his TV roles as Omar Little in The Wire and Chalky White in Boardwalk Empire, went on to add that "we need all hands on deck", with all surviving members of the Wu-Tang Clan, including RZA, Method Man, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah, expected to feature.
Williams also spoke to MTV and said that the film would be careful not to trivialise the life of the late rapper, who died of an accidental drug overdose in 2004.
"There's going to be some comedy, but we're not playing to that," he said. "It's going to be shot as a straight piece, no buffoonery, for lack of a better word.
"It's only going to cover the last two years of his life, when he was released from prison to the day he died. It's just an insight into what he struggled with in the public eye."
The story is reported to focus on the unusual relationship between the rapper, real name Russell Jones, and a 22-year-old VH1 production assistant who eventually became his manager.
Dirty White Boy is scheduled to be released sometime in 2013.
