Irish actor, Chris O’Dowd has been praised for his role in The Sapphires, an Australian musical/drama/comedy, following the premiere of the movie at the Cannes Film Festival.
According to IndieWire, the film which is set against the backdrop of the simmering racial tensions between Aborigines and white Australians, and the onset of the Vietnam War, The Sapphires tells the based-on-the-true-story tale of four sisters who form a celebrated girl group who perform for the soldiers in the battle-scarred country. O’Dowd plays Dave, the group's manager and arranger and according to reviews, he doesn’t disappoint.
Speaking of the movie, the actor known for his role in Bridesmaids told Lorraine Kelly: "It's an Aboriginal musical. I play an entertainment officer at a cruise ship who is thrown off because he likes a drink.
"He runs a talent night in the outback and tours with these girls around Vietnam, so standard affair.
"It's a gorgeous story, it's got a lot of heart and the music is terrific."
Funnyman O'Dowd also joked about stealing candles at the film festival with his fiancé Dawn Porter. He said: "She's back at the hotel room, as hungover as I am, just trying to blag free stuff I'm sure.
"We went to this party thing, and they had lovely candles. So I blew a few of them out and threw them in the bag!"
