Sarah Michelle Gellar: Ringer gets red card

Sarah Michelle Gellar’s soap-on-stilts drama Ringer and teen witch show The Secret Circle have both been axed by American TV network The CW.

Ringer - where Gellar played twins Bridget and Siobhan Martin - had struggled in the ratings throughout its first season, and a highly convoluted plot couldn’t but put off occasional watchers.

Executive producer Pam Veasey recently said about the show: "It was not . . . I guess you could use the word 'accessible'.

"[If we did it again] we'd make it more accessible for people who just drop in, probably do less in an episode. And what I mean by that is make it less complex in the plotting."

Despite its difficulties, Veasey had been optimistic about getting a second season for the show, which was carried by Sky Living on this side of the Atlantic.

Meanwhile, the CW has given full season orders to five new shows, including Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries and comic book adaptation Arrow.
