It has been confirmed that there will be no concert at Slane Castle this year.

No full statement has been released, however an update from Slane Castle's official Facebook page this morning read "Good Morning guys, Lord Henry has announced this morning 'there will be no Slane this year, but 2013 will be busy'". The same message was posted on the Twitter account for the Castle.

Social media users have posted their disappointment at the announcement, with 'No Slane' trending on Twitter.

This is not the first time the music concert has been cancelled, it was not staged in 2005, 2008 or 2010. In 2005, headliner Eminem pulled out of his sold-out slot due to entering a drug rehabilitation facility.

In 2010, the concert was expected to happen, with organiser, Henry, Marquess Conyngham, promising an "international artist" but the concert was later cancelled.

Madonna headlined the iconic concert in 2004

Last year Kings Of Leon headlined the concert, with support from Elbow, White Lies and Thin Lizzy, among others. Other recent headliners include The Rolling Stones, Oasis and Madonna.

Henry Mountcharles previously stated that the team organising the event were actively seeking AC/DC as headliners at some point in the future, as a response to eager fans who started a Facebook campaign for the concert.
