Alan Sugar fired the contestant with the worst sales figures on The Apprentice on BBC One on Wednesday night.

Irish contestant Jane McEvoy from Kilkenny became the fourth person to be fired by Sugar on this year's show.

McEvoy was joined in the boardroom by project manager Laura Hogg and Gabrielle Omar.

Sugar said the team's shop was overloaded with furniture and "looked like a tip".

In the second-hand sales task, McEvoy had the worst sales figures, selling only £10 worth of goods.

Food company co-founder McEvoy said that the show had been "a positive thing on the map of my life".

She defended her decision to let her teammates concentrate on selling, saying: "I know nothing about vintage furniture.

"If you have no clue what you are talking about there is no point telling other people about it.

"The shop was really quiet and we had six people in there selling and I said, 'There is no point being here and I'm going to get out and get people in'.

"I wouldn't have given away some of the stuff we were selling, it was really bad."

As to project manager Hogg's decision to nominate her for elimination, McEvoy said: "Laura is a lovely girl and at the end of the day Lord Sugar made the decision and I wish her the best."
