A new bad boy is set to arrive in Emmerdale, causing trouble for the Maceys at Home Farm, it has been announced.

TV newcomer Jamie Shelton is joining the cast of the soap as Robbie, a shady character from Megan Macey's past, who will leave her feeling shaken up at his arrival.

News agency PA quotes him as saying: "I'm really excited to be joining Emmerdale. Robbie is going to be a great character to play."

The 21-year-old actor was born in Manchester and has previously appeared in Innit the Musical at the Lowry theatre, Salford.

Dales producer Stuart Blackburn is quoted as saying: "I'm delighted to welcome Jamie to the cast. Robbie will certainly stir things up at Home Farm. He is a tough nut to crack and it will be a while before we get past the 'front' Robbie is well-used to putting on."

Robbie's appearance will apparently scare Megan (Gaynor Faye) about what secrets he might reveal, and will test the loyalties of her family.

Jamie is about to begin filming on the soap and Robbie will arrive on screens in May.
