Ashton Kutcher will star as Steve Jobs in an independent biopic being produced ahead of a Sony-backed version of the deceased Apple CEO’s official biography.
Principal photography is due to begin in May while Kutcher is on hiatus from CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men. The film will chronicle Jobs' meteoric rise from Northern California hippie to co-founder of Apple.
Last year Sony snapped up the film rights to Walter Isaacson's authorised biography of Jobs that was published within weeks of Jobs' death last October. But Kutcher’s Jobs looks likely to be the first out of the traps.
And while Kutcher may be best known for comedy, he has played dramatic roles, including The Butterfly Effect and the ensemble drama Bobby, about the assassination of US Senator Robert F Kennedy.
