Katy Perry has said that her 3D concert movie will open in the US on July 4.

The pop star made the announcement on the red carpet at last night’s Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. “You can go and see it and be a firework,” she told E! correspondent and friend, Kelly Osbourne, in reference to her own number one single, Firework. The movie will be called Katy Perry: Part of Me.

Magical Elves (the company behind TV shows Project Runway and Top Chef) are in talks to direct the movie which will chronicle Perry’s life on and off stage.

Dressed in a metallic outfit and armed with a shield, Perry sang Part of Me at the show against a medieval-themed backdrop of thrones, monarchs and candelabras. On the night Perry won favourite voice from an animated movie for The Smurfs. "The only reason why I'm still here today is because I've never grown up," she said from the stage before adding, "I can't wait to do Smurfs 2."
