Britain’s Got Talent winner, Jai McDowall, has been dropped by his record label just nine months after scooping the top prize.

The 25-year-old blames Sony CMG for the failure of his debut album, Believe, to reach no higher than 54 in the UK charts. He believes that he should have got more support from Sony and BGT’s music mogul, Simon Cowell.

"I didn't really ask for more support from Sony and Simon Cowell, and I kind of feel like I should have said something,” he told the Daily Mail. "I was just going along with it, because I didn't really know what I was doing. I did what I was told. I feel I could have pushed them a bit more, but I think they could have worked a bit harder with the promotion. I'll be honest, I don't think I got as much support as I was hoping to get.

Jai also advised this year's contestants to be prepared for the "ruthless" nature of the showbiz industry. "My advice to anyone on the show is try and enjoy it, because I was a nervous wreck. Take it in your stride, because at the end of the day the music business is ruthless. If it's not what you expect, you should be grateful for whatever you do get."

Simon Cowell admitted in January he was "disappointed" by Jai winning. “He wasn't what I was looking for,” he said. “You want a Diversity or Susan Boyle, someone who is a genuine star. He is talented but the show can do better. None of the finalists were up to scratch."
