Gary Oldman won the Best Actor award at last night’s Empire Awards in London.

The star of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy joked that the gong was one of the “few we can actually put up.” He also spoke about the possible ‘sequel’ to the John Le Carre novel, Smiley’s People.
"They're talking of maybe making, I suppose a sequel, but it's the third book in the trilogy, Smiley's People, and I'd be happy to come back and do it."

The 54-year-old added: "I get to just eat what I want and put on another tummy. It's not bad. My wife won't be happy, but I will."

Other winners on the night included Irish actor Michael Fassbender who won the Empire Hero award. Accepting the gong, Fassbender said: 'Well, this is kind of unusual, because I always wanted to be a superhero.'

Director Tim Burton was presented the Empire Legend award by Batman Returns star Danny DeVito. Twenty Twelve star Olivia Colman won Best Actress for her portrayal of an abused wife in Tyrannosaur, The Inbetweeners Movie was named Best Comedy and Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part II won Best Film.
