Jason Donovan has said his relationship with Kylie Minogue ended because of his own jealousy.
In his upcoming Piers Morgan's Life Stories interview, he says of the split: "I knew I was in love with her when she became successful on her own. It was a jealousy thing.
"I could see her slipping away. I am sure it happened before that but it was not until I could see her going off in one direction I thought I was going to lose her."
The singer tells Morgan he was "truly" in love with Minogue, who, he says, "chased" him.
"I guess it is hard for a young man as you think you are the success story and the breadwinner, but then suddenly she is off on a different course," he says. "We did live together for a while and there was a lot of chemistry between us. This was the first time I had truly been in love with someone.
"That is a very powerful emotion to have, coupled with the fact that you are one of the most successful and talked about couples in Australia, which was our backyard at the time. We argued a lot about her wanting to go off and do other things."
Minogue left Donovan for the late INXS singer Michael Hutchence, who she met for the first time at an INXS gig that she attended with Donovan.
Donovan says: "For a male it's a difficult thing to deal with to be dropped by a woman, but not only a woman but someone of her status. I took it hard. But what does not break you makes you stronger and I had an incredible network of people. She did try to explain to me once at a party at my house in Notting Hill.
"But you move on. I never went to an INXS concert after that."
Donovan and Minogue are now friends again.
