Mel Gibson is selling his sprawling Costa Rica residence.
The Oscar-winning actor and director (Braveheart) has put the property on the market at $29.8 million. The recently divorced Gibson (56) owns several properties around the world including ones in Australia, Connecticut, Montana and a private island in Fiji. A proprety he owns in Malibu, California, is currently on the market at $11.8 million.
The private 500-acre beachfront-and-jungle holiday home in Costa Rica first came on the market in 2010 for $35 million. The hill-top property's main residence is a two-story hacienda-style house with seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms, a large courtyard and a swimming pool. There are also two smaller guest cottages, each with two bedrooms, a veranda, vaulted ceilings, kitchen and private swimming pool. The property includes a Balinese entertaining house with no walls, a restaurant and another small cottage in the jungle.
Gibson has seven children from his long marriage which ended in divorce in 2009. He also has one child with Russian pianist Oksana Grigorieva, with whom he had an acrimonious breakup. Gibson reportedly used the Costa Rican home during his legal troubles with Grigorieva. Gibson was also photographed with her there in 2009, shortly before his wife filed for divorce.
In recent years, following his legal troubles and much publicised anti-semitic remarks, Gibson’s acting roles have been few and far between. Last year he starred in the Jodie Foster film, The Beaver. His next film is Get the Gringo, which he co-wrote, is due for release later this year.
