Noel and Liam Gallagher’s mum refused their offer of a new house when they hit the big time.

Noel and Liam Gallagher shot to fame in the mid-1990s when their band Oasis released their debut album Definitely Maybe to a massive amount of success. The record sold 8 million copies around the world, and being the good boys that they are, Liam and Noel offered to treat their mum with their good fortune.

However, Peggy Gallagher, who is originally from Co. Mayo, refused to allow her sons to buy her a new home, which would have allowed her to move out of her council house.

The boys wanted her to move to a mansion, but all she wanted was a new gate. Noel told the BBC: "She gave it all up for us. I think she has great karma and two of her children became two of the biggest rock stars that England ever produced."

He added: "All she got was a new garden gate from us. Liam offered to buy her a castle... but the gate at her council house had been squeaking and she wanted that fixed."

"She still lives there and we changed it and put a gold number 5 on the gate."
