Caustic Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood will find himself on the receiving end of criticism as he learns how to become a classical conductor for the BBC series Maestro at the Opera.

DJ Trevor Nelson, actress Josie Lawrence and broadcaster and academic Professor Marcus du Sautoy will also take part in the three-part BBC Two series, which sees contestants competing to conduct an entire act of an opera at the Royal Opera House in London.

They will each be helped by a mentor, with a panel of judges assessing their progress.

The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House will decide the winner.

BBC Two controller Janice Hadlow said: "I look forward to seeing whether their natural musical ability will be enough to help them master the skills needed in the new series, which will take viewers right to the heart of one of the world's greatest opera institutions."
