Rihanna is reportedly in the running to play Whitney Houson in a film about the late singer's life.

Houston's record label boss Clive Davis is said to be planning the project, and executives have created a shortlist of stars they are considering for the role.

Other names that are on the shortlist are Jennifer Hudson, who performed a tribute to Houston at the Grammys, Independence Day star Vivica A Fox and American Idol singer Jordin Spark

Will Smith's 11-year-old daughter Willow Smith is being lined up to play the singer as child.

A source told The People: "Clive wants to get the script done and start filming as soon as possible. Whitney knew about the project and was excited to see where it would lead.

"It's hoped the biopic will be as successful as Tina Turner movie What's Love Got To Do With It, which landed two Oscar nominations for Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne."
