Cathal Murray has been announced as the presenter of the RTÉ Radio 1 show, The Weekend on One with Cathal Murray.
The first programme of the weekend music and entertainment show aired this morning. The show, which formerly aired on Saturday mornings as The Weekend on One, will now be broadcast on both Saturday and Sunday mornings between 6am and 8am.
Murray has been filling in on The Weekend on One since the show's former presenter, Donal Broughan, passed away in December 2011.
He said of the news: “I am delighted that I have been asked to present The Weekend on One. I always admired my late colleague Donal’s meticulous music selection and stand-out presenting skills. It is an honour to follow in his footsteps.”
Ann-Marie Power, Editor of Music and Entertainment for RTÉ Radio 1, said: “The Weekend on One has been held in extremely high regard by listeners, colleagues and critics alike. Cathal Murray is part of a new generation of talented music presenters on RTÉ Radio 1 and with his love and knowledge of music we know that Donal’s legacy is in very safe hands.”
