Actor Gerard Butler has returned home after spending time in rehab for substance abuse issues.
His spokesperson was quoted in usmagazine.com as saying: "Gerard has completed a successful course of treatment and has returned home in good health. We will not be making any further comment at this time."
Butler (42) checked himself into the Betty Ford Clinic three weeks ago after he felt he was becoming reliant on prescription drugs following a nasty injury in a surfing accident in December last year.
Butler, who has battled problems with alcohol in the past, is now teetotal. "I used to drink until I couldn't remember anything,” said the Paisley-born star. "I was just mad for it and on a death wish. It was madness.”
A trained lawyer Butler turned to acting in the 90s and rose to fame with the lead role in Joel Schumacher's 2004 film musical The Phantom of the Opera. Most recently he won rave reviews for his portrayal of Tullus Aufidius in Ralph Fienne’s modern reworking of Coriolanus.
