Edgar Wright has signed up to direct Johnny Depp in The Night Stalker.
The Pirates Of The Caribbean star is to play intrepid tabloid reporter Carl Kolchak in Disney's big screen adaptation of the 1970s' ABC TV series.
The director of Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and Scott Pilgrim Vs The World has now been signed up to direct, before a writer has been chosen to adapt the screenplay, according to Deadline.
The show saw crime reporter Kolchak continually uncovering supernatural activities, including zombies, vampires, werewolves and aliens. His editor would never believe him or let him run his outrageous stories, but Kolchak would always put his life on the line for a paranormal scoop.
Johnny is producing with his Infinitum Nihil partner Christi Dembrowski and the story is to be toned down to be made suitable for a Disney audience.
