Hollywood legend Al Pacino was greeted by large crowds in Dublin last night for a Jameson Dublin International Film festival screening of his new film Wilde Salome.
The Oscar winner was also presented with the festival award, the Volta by President Michael D Higgins.
The film offers a look at Pacino’s obsession with Wilde’s play. He directs and plays Herod.
Pacino made a small part of the film in Dublin, and spoke of the importance of coming to Wilde’s birthplace.
"To come to this place where his roots are and to be allowed free reign . . . it was very beneficial to the movie, and I am just deeply grateful," he said.
Joining him on the red carpet were Oscar Wilde’s grandson Merlin Holland, film producer Barry Navidi and with his Argentinian girlfriend, Lucila Sola, 31, whom he met on the set of the drama.
Speaking outside the theatre the legendary actor said he would like to make a film in Ireland some day so he could "get around, see it, and be part of it and be with the people".
