The Artist dominated the Orange British Academy Film Awards 2012 last night, winning seven awards.

The black and white film, which is about a silent actor struggling to make the transition to talkies, won BAFTAs for Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for Michel Hazanavicius and Best Actor for Jean Dujardin.

Meryl Streep took home the Best Actress honour for her role as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.

Ocatvia Spencer was awarded Best Supporting Actress for The Help while Christopher Plummer won Best Supporting Actor for Beginners.

Bridesmaids star Chris O'Dowd lost out to Anuvahood's Adam Deacon who won the Orange Rising Star Award, the only BAFTA to be voted for by the public.

Hugo director Martin Scorsese accepted the Academy Fellowship, and said upon accepting the award: "This award has particular resonance, because it is the first award I've ever shared with Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, the knights templar of British cinema."
