One Direction's Harry Styles has proved a hit with music execs on the band's US tour, reportedly earning himself a promotion to 'lead singer'.

Sources have claimed that Styles has been singled out as a new front man.

The group are currently supporting Big Time Rush on their US tour and have proved just as popular with teenage girls Stateside as they are on this side of the pond.

Harry reportedly caught the eye of host Carly on the Nickelodeon show iCarly and this has perhaps helped cement his new role as lead singer, which music execs claim the band need if they are to make it in the US.

A source told the Daily Star: "Columbia music execs are rubbing their hands with glee. It looks like One Direction are going to be absolutely massive in America.

"They decided long ago that Harry is a natural frontman. He's funny, confident and has a great voice."

However the band, who all auditioned for the X Factor as solo singers before being placed together, are keen for things to remain even.

Harry is also celebrating his 18th birthday today.
