Ahead of this Sunday’s US Super Bowl, Elton John has some harsh words of advice for the halftime-show performer Madonna.

When interviewed by Good Morning America host Chris Connelly, he was asked if he had any insight for the Queen of Pop and he said: "Make sure you lip-sync good.

He added: "I've never seen a decent one - never ever.

“Of course you have to play live, but I don't think you can. In all fairness to everyone who's done one before, you may be able to sing live but it's really hard to play live.

"Actually, to be honest with you I saw the Stones and I saw Prince and I thought they were pretty good."

John was dressed in an elaborate robe during the interview as he was shooting a Pepsi advertisement along with The US X Factor winner Melanie Amaro which will air during the Super Bowl.

In the ad, the 64-year-old will play a king who decides whether or not he likes the talent that he's presented with.

This isn't the first time that John has brought up lip-syncing while talking about Madonna.

In 2004 when she was nominated for Best Live Act at the Q Awards, he said: "Anyone who lip-synchs in public onstage when you pay 75 pounds [€90] to see them should be shot."
