Happy Mondays are to re-form and embark on a month long tour this summer, the band have confirmed.

The original line-up of Bez, Shaun Ryder, Paul Ryder, guitarist Mark Day, Paul Davis and drummer Gary Whelan, as well as singer and X-Factor contestant Rowetta, met last week to finalise plans of a tour in May.

Backing singer Rowetta has said that meeting up was "nerve-racking" insists "its going to be fabulous. We're all really excited".

The month-long UK tour will consist of 11 dates.

Speaking to BBC Radio, Rowetta said "We decided it would only be special and work if it was the total, original line-up".

"We're all really excited. They are my family, these boys; I've really missed them... and I'm sure they've missed each other."

"It was brilliant, it was really nerve-racking but its going to be fabulous. We're all really excited.

"We have reformed before, but it wasn't the real Mondays. It wasn't the original band. We've not been on stage for 20 years... it's just going to be amazing", she added.
