Zooey Deschanel has revealed that she was bullied by her classmates when she was in school.
The actress recalled some people were so "mean" to her that her time in high school was tough. She told Allure: "Girls spit in my face. People were so mean to me. I'd cry every day."
Deschanel studied in Northwestern University in Illinois after high school, but she struggled to get along with her fellow college students while there.
She added: "I went to Northwestern because I had gone to a really non-traditional high school. I was like, 'It'd be cool to have a traditional college experience'.
"Then I was like, 'Oh, but none of these people understand what's cool about me. My specialness is not appreciated in this place'."
The 500 Days of Summer star recently filed for divorce from her husband Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie.
