Desperate Housewives - creator Marc Cherry kills off movie speculation

Desperate Housewives' creator Marc Cherry has shot down the idea of a movie version of the show.

Cherry insists that the hugely popular comedy-drama will end after its current eighth season, and will not continue on through movies, spin-offs, reunions or sequels.

"Boy, after eight years, I think we're done," he told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour, adding that he had no plans or desire to follow in the footsteps of Sex and the City, which spawned two movies.

"They hadn't really plumbed the depth of those characters,” said Cherry. “I'm just never sending these gals to Dubai, that's all I'm saying."

And Cherry refused to be drawn on the final storylines that will mark the end of Desperate Housewives, although he did reveal that he knows how he wants to leave Wisteria Lane.

"I'm so not revealing what the ending will be," he said. "The last act, which I've had in my head for the last seven and a half years, is definitely going to happen. I've got it in my head, but it is very much a surprise."
