Irish actor Edward MacLiam has revealed that he is leaving Holby City.

The actor has revealed that he will step down as registrar Greg Douglas in early 2012 after two years in the role.

Speaking to the Sun newspaper he said: "I haven't signed another contract so January or February will be the end for me. I thought that two years would be a good barometer of how it went and I've really enjoyed it."

MacLiam explained that he is unsure as to how his character will depart the show, but he hopes he leaves with a bang.

He said: "They haven't said what my exit storyline is. But I think it will be something big." MacLiam can also currently be seen starring in Merlin on Saturday nights on BBC 1.
