X Factor: could be chased off number one spot by dog

YouTube video dog Benton is set to battle it out with X Factor for the British Christmas number one.

A remix of the hit YouTube video of a man desperately chasing his dog across a park is being released by progressive house duo The Hoxtons.

A Facebook campaign has been launched to get the song to the top of the charts “to annoy Simon Cowell and try to save the UK from an X Factor Christmas number 1”.

A similar chart battle occured in 2009 as Rage Against The Machine’s Killing In The Name beat Joe McElderry’s The Climb to the top spot.

The campaign’s Facebook page claims: “If there's one man who can take on Simon Cowell and win, it's a dog, and that dog is called BENTON (or possibly Fenton).”

The single, which was produced by Pitch & Sync, is released on Monday December 18 and will be available from Amazon and iTunes.

All proceeds will go to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
