Chris O'Dowd has signed up to write and star in a new comedy for Sky1 called Moone Boy.
It will be a semi-autobiographical show about his time growing up in 1980s Ireland, following Martin Moone, an 11-year-old boy with an active imagination.
O'Dowd will play the character of Sean Murphy, Martin's imaginary friend, on the show.
The lead role of Martin has not yet been cast, however it has been confirmed that Steve Coogan and Johnny Vegas have signed up for guest roles.
O'Dowd said of the new series: "It's a really funny show which has loads of animation and a number of laughs that I hope people will love.
"It was essential to film in Ireland and what was great about Sky was they wanted us to film here and they were really supportive. That wouldn't have happened at any other channel."
Filing for Moone Boy is expected to begin in Dublin and O'Dowd's homeotown of Boyle, Co Roscommon, in January and the show is due to air on Sky1 next summer.
