Madonna confirmed for Superbowl 2012

Madonna is set to take centre stage at the biggest TV event of the year in the US when she becomes the half-time act at next year's Super Bowl.

NBC announced that the Grammy Award-winning singer will be the main performer at the event, which is watched by over 162 million people in the US, the biggest TV audience in the world.

She will follow in the footsteps of U2, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Tom Petty, Paul McCartney and last year’s performers, The Black Eyed Peas.

The most infamous Superbowl performers are naturally Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake, whose performance resulted in a wardrobe malfunction.

Madonna's performance is set to coincide with the release of her directorial debut W.E. which is due to open two days before the Superbowl takes place on February 5.
