Pop star Dougie Poynter was last night crowned king of the jungle.
The McFly Bassist knocked out his mate, and the bookies’ favourite, Mark Wright, to become the 2011 winner of I’m a Celebrity . . . Get Me Out of Here!
The 24-year-old was stunnned by the win. "I'm lost for words, my mouth is so dry,” he said. "These have been the best couple of weeks of my life. I wish everybody in the world could experience that."
When the result was announced Poynter and his rival, The Only Way Is Essex star Mark Wright, hugged each other. Afterwards the runner-up was fulsome in his praise for his friend. "There couldn't be a better winner than this man here,” said Wright. "He deserves it so much, he is the nicest guy in the whole world."
In last night’s show the duo had to undergo the final Bushtucker Trial: Wright having to dine on a cockroach cocktail and Poynter knocking back a glass of red liquid which hosts Ant and Dec revealed to be Emu Liver. Both contestants came close to gagging but were rewarded for their efforts with a slap-up meal of pizza and spaghetti followed by brownies and ice cream.
Both finalists hugged each other as the results were announced after which Poynter sat on his throne and accepted the crown from hosts Joe Swash and Laura Whitmore.
