Actress Charley Webb has defended the current Emmerdale storyline which sees her character, Debbie Dingle eager to have a saviour sibling for her daughter Sarah.

The controversial storyline sees Debbie convince her former boyfriend, Sarah’s father Andy Sugden (Kevin Fletcher) to father another baby who can then provide bone marrow for their gravely ill little girl.

Speaking about the storyline 23-year-old Webb said: "I know it's a controversial issue and that some people are against the idea of saviour siblings, but it's all about individual choice.

"I hope the majority of viewers will see why Debbie feels she needs to have another child to save Sarah and also ask themselves, 'What would I do?'

"I think it's positive that we are posing these questions and making people think.

"I'm confident most people will understand that when it comes down to saving your child's life, you will do whatever it takes.

"Personally, I wouldn't care what it took. I would do absolutely everything and anything to save my child."

Webb has an 18-month-old son, Buster, by boyfriend and Emmerdale co-star Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe.
