TAKE TEN: Ruth Scott

She’s got a sunny disposition - maybe that explains the sun block fixation. Ruth Scott might some day re-learn flower arranging, if she can stop climbing challenging mountains, as Paddy Kehoe discovers.

What is your earliest childhood memory?
Myself and Pat, the youngest of my three brothers, rolling down a hill in one of my neighbours fields. I wouldn’t lie down in a field now if you paid me. Too afraid I’d land in poop.

Who was your first pin-up?
It caused much consernation in school. At the time, Smash Hits music magazine used to print posters in the middle of the magazine. Everyone in my class loved U2 and put a huge poster up. I, much to my shame, used to turn it around to the opposite side on the noticeboard in the classroom so that I could look at - Rick Astley. Don’t know what I was thinking.

Which of your peers do you most admire, and why?
Paddy McKenna, my co-host on 2FM. His enthusiasm would bring a dead man back to life. He’s an endless source of humour, brilliant stories, cool music knowledge and he’s also the person responsible for helping me get to know the wonders of the nightclub, Copper Face Jacks. Seriously though, he has come so far in such a short length of time, he’s quite the driving force which I admire so much. The fact that we’re mates and get to work together is a great combo.

What would you be doing with your life if you hadn’t chosen this career path?
The only other real job I had after college was working in a flower shop for six months. I was getting to be half-decent at putting together a bouquet. It’s a skill that I would happily re-learn.

Can you reveal one of your guilty pleasures?
It’s not earth-shatteringly wild but I love to eat a bar of chocolate ridiculously slowly accompanied by a large pot of tea. It’s the simple things in life. Beans on toast is another.

Who would like to see cast in the movie of your life?
I’d love to see a dress rehearsal of the movie while I’m still alive and have Ryan Gosling play the part of any man that I’d gotten to kiss. If my life was ever made into a movie, it’d be a straight-to-DVD rubbish ‘B’ movie. Twilight, Mission Impossible, any Ryan Gosling film, they would be a much better watch!

Who are you following on Twitter?
I follow all my 2FM buddies, lots of people from other radio stations, the New York Times, Guardian music section, Philip Schofield, Louie Spence, Yoko Ono (snoooore!) @RTE_Guide of course. I follow Brian O’Driscoll and his wife Amy Huberman. We had Jamie Heaslip & Cian Healy on the show over the last few months so it’d be rude not to follow them. Keith Chegwin (who??!) Bosco, loads of Irish bands, loads of bands in fact. Gok Wan, Perez Hilton and Maeve Higgins. Caitlin Moran and Deepak Chopra - well I have to have some depth in my life.

What’s the first thing you’ll buy when you win the Lottery?
When I win the lottery, I will buy - note the positive affirmation - I will buy a radio station on a desert island and continue doing what I love in sunshine. Sunshine takes first priority in my wish-list. A new wardrobe would have been my second choice. But since it’s the lottery I’m going to win, I’ll buy up all my neighbours houses and keep my current house as a dressing roomand live in the other houses.

What would you pack for your desert island?
Sun block – I’m fanatical about it. Runners and sports gear – I like the idea of keeping fit. An unending supply of music on my ipod with gargantuan speakers, every box-set known to man. Oh and a generator so I can have power for my music and TV.

What’s at the top of your Things to do Before I Die List?
12 months ago, it would have been to climb Kilimanjaro. I’ve done that since so I reckon I’d like to win the lottery before I die.
