Brad Pitt has claimed that he will retire from acting before the age of 50.

The Tree Of Life actor revealed that he is likely to stop featuring in films in the next "three years," but he hinted that he may continue to work behind the scenes.

Speaking on the Australian talkshow 60 Minutes he said: "I've really enjoyed the producerial side and getting stories to the plate that may have had a harder time otherwise."

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times Culture magazine Pitt further explained: "We all have a shelf life, and mine is coming – although there are a couple of things I'd still like to do. I am looking forward to playing a foul-mouthed grumpy old dude one day, that's for sure."

It is suggested that fatherhood is the reason why Pitt wants to take a break from starring in movies.

He added: "I am more passionate now that I am a father. It has focused my mind on the kind of work I want to do."

Pitt continued: "I'm bothered less about whether the films I shoot make money. I just want them to have longevity."
