Robert Pattinson has said that he had an ulterior motive for becoming an actor.

The Twilight star revealed that he hoped a career in showbiz would make him more successful with women.

Speaking to David Letterman on The Late Show he said: "I wanted to meet girls! That was the main thing."

Pattinson, who is dating his Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart, explained how he is often approached by women of all ages.

He said: "It's not just so much teenage girls. It's older [women] than people realise. The older ones are the far more passionate fans, yeah."

Pattinson added: "It's funny how the whole genre has changed since Twilight came out. I mean, vampires are now considered attractive, sexy things."
