It has been confirmed that Billy Crystal will host the 2012 Academy Awards after Eddie Murphy announced earlier this week that he was withdrawing from the event.
Murphy’s decision followed the departure of his producing partner Brett Ratner who walked away from the event after some controversial comments he made during an interview about their movie, Tower Heist.
Crystal, who has already hosted the show eight times tweeted yesterday "Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions" adding "Looking forward to the show."
He last hosted the Oscars in 2004. The 84th Academy Awards will take place on February 26th.
