Strictly Come Dancing’s Holly Valance could be set to have a new professional dance partner for next week’s show after it was revealed that her partner Artem Chigvintsev has suffered a fractured spine.
The 29-year-old dancer picked up the injury during a rehearsal session last Friday. He did perform on the live show on Saturday but afterwards was seen to be limping and in pain. The couple still managed to score an impressive 34 out of 40 for their jive.
Medical tests revealed yesterday the extent of his injuries with the BBC issuing a statement saying "Artem injured himself during rehearsals on Friday. Following medical attention he has been diagnosed with a transverse process fracture of the lumbar spine.
"We have been told that this sort of fracture is completely stable and he has been advised that there is no untoward effect from him continuing to dance.
"We will, of course, continue to review this following medical advice over the course of the week."
Valance is now training with professional dancer Brendan Cole who last weekend was eliminated from the competition with celebrity partner Lulu. According to reports Chigvintsev is attending rehearsals and has choreographed the routine while also receiving treatment for his injury.
It is unclear if he will be fit enough to perform on Saturday night.
